As the Fatah Revolutionary Council, the ruling PLO authority in the West Bank and President Abbas declared: "No to Israel as a Jewish state, no to interim borders, no to land swaps."

Israel's response is reminiscent of its firefighting abilities; too little and too late. "This doesn't help the peace process," Israeli diplomats moaned. Well, of course not; the Palestinians are not now and never have been interested in a "peace process" that would deny them their basic goal – Israel's destruction.

Palestinian actions are not the result of a lack of US involvement, but because misguided, biased US intervention raised false hopes and illusions that Israel could be subdued.

President Obama's policies brought the realization of this dream closer, gathering world opinion against Israel and delegitimizing the Jewish state.

In a conversation with a US diplomat, King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa of Bahrain ‘argued forcefully for taking action to terminate their [Iran's] nuclear programme, by whatever means necessary. That programme must be stopped. The danger of letting it go on is greater than the danger of stopping it.’ Zeid Rifai, then president of the Jordanian senate, told a senior US official: ‘Bomb Iran, or live with an Iranian bomb. Sanctions, carrots, incentives won't matter.’

In talks with US officials, Abu Dhabi crown prince Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed favoured action against Iran, sooner rather than later. ‘I believe this guy is going to take us to war ... It's a matter of time. Personally, I cannot risk it with a guy like [President Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad. He is young and aggressive.’

Israel's Government Press Office is part of the Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Ministry and is responsible for being in contact and dealing with foreign journalists in the country, issuing official press cards to journalists and media employees in Israel, coordinating media coverage for state events and official visits by foreign leaders.

JPost editor-in-chief David Horovitz interviews Israel's outgoing Gov't Press Office director, Danny Seaman (who has has held the post since 2000) in the Jerusalem Post:

Is the departing Seaman a heroic advocate for Israel who is being shamefully and counter-productively treated by his foolish, short-sighted, lily-livered bosses? Or should someone so candid and opinionated never have been entrusted with the ultra-delicate task of liaising with the international media? 

Danny Seaman: This goes back to the whole issue of Israel’s hasbara failures since the Oslo Accords. We pulled the rug out from under our arguments. The moment in the Oslo process when we didn’t completely stand up for our narrative, we gave legitimacy to the Palestinian claims. [We gave up on] our positions, our claims, our rights!

David Horovitz: As regards the Old City, east Jerusalem...?

Seaman: Every place! My grandfather came here from Afghanistan, not because of Tel Aviv and not because of Haifa, but because of our ancestral right to the Land of Israel. And without our right to the Land of Israel we have no right to the State of Israel; we are no more than the colonialist occupiers which they claim we are. For many years, we used this claim of our right to Eretz Yisrael, not as a political statement, but as a case of genuine historical reasoning. You can’t say that it’s a right-wing argument. It has nothing to do with my positions or my being a right-winger. It’s a fact."

The hard-fought race between Democrat Barbara Boxer and Republican Carly Fiorina is being tipped as one of the deciding races in the Senate balance.

It is widely expected that Republicans will win in the House, however the bid for control of the Senate is a much harder feat. Democrats currently have a majority of 59, with 57 Democrats and 2 independents, so the Republicans would have to keep all of their seats plus win a further 10 to tip the balance in their favor.

Aside from ousting three-term incumbent Boxer in California, the Republicans would also have to oust Nevada’s Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid as well as President Obama’s former seat of Illinois and the seat held by Democrat Robert Byrd for five decades in West Virginia, currently being contested by Democrat Joe Manchin in a very tight race with Republican John Raese.

California and Washington are said to be the two races which will ultimately decide the fate of the Senate, and Carly Fiorina is being backed big-time by Republicans. The former Hewlett-Packard CEO has been bolstered by more than $5 million into her campaign coffers, which shows "not only the importance of this race but also the viability of Carly," according to a Fiorina campaign spokesperson.

At this point, Boxer is in the mid-40’s in the polls, which has her campaign worried, with little less than two weeks until the election. But in this volatile political climate, nothing is certain until polls close November 2.

"Our special operations section says it will be a minimal impact on traffic," added LADOT spokesperson Sean Anderson, who said there should be areas where you can cross the street.

N.Y. Daily News reports: "A man ripped pages from a Koran and lit them aflame at a protest near the proposed site of a community center and mosque near Ground Zero on Saturday.

"If they can burn American flags, I can burn the Koran," shouted the unidentified man. "America should never be afraid to give their opinion."

The man was led away by police but did not appear to be arrested."

Update: 14 Septembe:: Koran burner Derek Fenton booted from his job at NJ Transit
NJ Transit said Fenton was fired but wouldn't give specifics.  "Mr. Fenton's public actions violated New Jersey Transit's code of ethics," an agency statement said.  "NJ Transit concluded that Mr. Fenton violated his trust as a state employee and therefore [he] was dismissed."  Fenton was ushered from the protests by police on Saturday and questioned, but he was released without charges.
If Fenton was fired for burning the Koran while off-duty, his First Amendment rights probably were violated, Chris Dunn of the New York Civil Liberties Union said. "The Supreme Court has recognized a constitutional right to burn the flag. As reprehensible as it may be, burning the Koran would be protected as well."

Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, pays tribute to America on Independence Day; reminds Americans that Israel is "steadfast ally and friend" and that it is "American power (which) ultimately keeps the enemies of freedom at bay"

PM Netanyahu spoke on July 1st at the American Ambassador James Cunningham's residence in Israel in honor of U.S. Independence Day.

"Our (the Jewish people's) tragedy is that the U.S. did not dominate the first half of the 20th century. And what a difference the rise of America has made in rolling back totalitarian forces and standing up for liberty. And now, at the first half of the 21st century, the U.S. is still entrusted with the difficult task of defending freedom and defending peace. American power still ultimately keeps the enemies of freedom at bay. Netanyahu quotes Pres. Abraham Lincoln who remarked: "The United States is the last, best hope on earth."

He continued, "The intervening century and a half has confirmed that analysis. The Jewish State in particular owes a great debt of appreciation and gratitude to the United States. For decades, the U.S. has helped Israel meet the enormous challenges we face. It has helped us bear the heavy burdens of our defense. It has helped us feel secure enough to take risks for peace. It has helped us negotiate that peace and then make practical arrangements to cement it on the ground.

Troopathon guest celebrity, Victoria Jackson, (veteran comic actress from SNL) stood on her head to raise awareness of the 2nd verse of the "Star Spangled Banner" in order to raise viewer donations for US troops through the live broadcast of Troopathon.org. The webcast telethon raised over half-a-million dollars for care-packages to send to our boys and gals in the service of our country.



The only problem was that to minimize Victoria's time on her hands, the singer, Diana Nagy, should have been singing the long verse quickly to avert an aneurysm for Victoria. Instead, Diana prioritized projecting a vibrato - and draws out the song long beyond the few seconds Victoria could manage on the hardwood floor. The verse (in which Francis Scott Key references the reverence of America) was written:

"O, thus be it ever,when freemen shall stand,
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause. it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!"

Obama Admin's latest "change?" Driving U.S.' "tectonic rift" from Mid-East ally - Israel, Amb. Mike Oren denies disclosing to Israeli diplomats who allegedly leaked it to newspaper

Despite Obama's uncharacteristic charm-offensive towards PM Netanyahu, Israel's Amb. Oren says of Washington: "Relations are in the state of a tectonic rift in which continents are drifting apart!"

Ha'Aretz newspaper's Barak Ravid reports that: "Israel's ambassador to Washington, Michael Oren, denied painting a dark picture of U.S.- Israeli relations during a briefing at the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem last week. Israeli diplomats say Oren described the current situation as a "tectonic rift" in which Israel and the United States are like continents drifting apart."

And yet, he (Amb. Mike Oren) is neither deluded nor dishonest, so he concedes — he thought, privately — that Obama is pulling the relationship apart, replacing a robust alliance based on shared values, interests, and, yes, affection with an arms-length, if not antagonistic, one, in which Israel is treated as an encumbrance to Obama’s foreign-policy objectives.

There is a weird bit of play acting going on. The Israeli government, the Obama team, and the American Jewish groups publicly declare that things are “much improved” between the two countries and that Obama is really, honestly, a stalwart defender of the Jewish state. But, in fact, none of them believe this to be so. Bibi’s government walks a tightrope, attempting to defend its country’s interests but wary of enraging the American president, who is all too eager to look for excuses to demonstrate to the “Muslim World” that he’s not four-square behind Israel. The Obama team thinks that a “charm” offensive will be sufficient, and looks to do the least possible in defense of Israel without provoking American Jewry. And Jewish leaders privately grumble and rage over Obama’s assaults on Israel, but dare not make their fury public — for they might lose access to the White House, as well as their liberal members.

The Kabuki dance, however, matters less than reality. Israel’s foes see the separation between the U.S. and the Jewish state. Iran sees Obama’s unwillingness to consider military force to thwart its nuclear ambitions. The Arab nations see that America is an unreliable ally, and consider lining up with the Iran-Syria axis, which is growing in prestige as ours diminishes. In sum, Israel’s foes and ours are not fooled; they understand all too well the “tectonic rift” between the U.S. and Israel. 

Perhaps, it is time, at least in the U.S., for Israel’s friends to be candid about the depth of the problem and to devise a strategy for challenging the president, whose foreign policy is so antithetical to Israel’s interests that its ambassador can only reveal his true sentiments in private.

1. This video file contains a number of clips documenting the stages of the hard core of IHH operatives aboard the Mavi Marmara preparing themselves for the violent confrontation with the IDF. Some of the videos were taken by the ship’s security cameras (close to the time of the confrontation IHH operatives disabled some 20 security cameras on the upper deck) and others were taken by media correspondents or photographers on board who documented the events.

2. The videos illustrate the intensive preparations made for the confrontation, which began immediately after the Israeli Navy hailed the ships and asked them to return to their home ports. At that point all the ordinary passengers were sent below decks while all the operatives of the hard core mounted the upper deck and began preparations for the confrontation (statements to that effect were also reported when passengers and crew members were questioned).

3. The videos show some of the preparations:

A. Dividing the operatives into avtion teams: Every team was briefed by a senior operative. During the briefings one leader is heard listening to orders (in Turkish) on his walkie-talkie and repeating them to his team. He orders, “Don’t move from here.”

B. Cutting chains and iron bars from the ship’s railings using disks brought on board in Istanbul. The lengths of chains and bars were used to attack the IDF forces.

C. Removing wooden clubs from their hiding places on the ship and distributing them to the operatives.

D. Putting on gas masks and handing out filters.

E. Gathering the operatives on the upper deck, facing the sea. The operatives are armed with clubs to meet the IDF forces.

4. When the first soldier landed on board the ship he and those following him were viciously attacked by the IHH operatives who used the weapons they had prepared in advance, to the point of trying to kill the soldiers.
